INTRODUCTION
Management Association of Pakistan was formed in 1964 by a small group of owner, managers and senior professional executives who, for some time, had been keenly aware of the demands likely to be made on managerial talent within the country, consequent upon the rapis increase in the tempo of industrial activity.
The need for such an Association was further underlined by the important role assigned to the private sector in Pakistan’s development plans Government's declared policy of encouraging the professional managerial class.
Based on the conviction that effective management is one of the most important factors in ensuring the successful implementation of the country’s ambitious plans for economic development, the primary objective before the Association is to stimulate interest in, and disseminate knowledge about, modern managerial practices and techniques.
The Association is a purely non-political and non-profit making body.
ABOUT MAP
The Management Association of Pakistan is the apex management association of the country. Its mandate is to further management thought, practice and advocacy. MAP provides a platform for exchange of management knowledge and acts as a bridge between the public and private sectors, management practitioners and the government. The MAP is a forum at which national and international economic issues are discussed in seminars other meetings. Experience has shown that such discussions have been helpful in identifying potential solutions to various issues facing the country.
The Executive Committee
The affairs of MAP are managed by an elected high-powered 10 member Executive Committee comprising of corporate entities and leading Business Institutions such as ICI, GSK, Unilever, Siemens, Philips, Engro, KPMG, IGI, PSO, Shell, PTCL, Citibank etc. Mr. Kamal A. Chinoy, Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan Cables Limited is the current President of MAP.

The Executive Committee has several Sub-Committees assisting them in the execution of the policies. Each Sub-Committee is headed by a Chair and has a Vice-Chair, a Member and a Secretary.

The association has a small secretariat to implement the directives and decisions of the executive committee. It is headed by an executive director who is assisted by a staff of 7 colleagues.

To achieve the objectives of the Association various activities as seminars and conferences are organized.
MEMBERSHIP
The Association has the following category of members:
Institutional Members which are further divided into three categories:
Type A – will comprise of organizations/institutions having less than 100 employees.utions having less than 100 employees.
Type B – will comprise of organizations/institutions having more than 100 but less than 500 employees.
Type C – will comprise of organizations/institutions having more than 500
Corporate (Individual) Members
Currently there are 272 Institutional members and 537 Corporate Members
FACILITIES The nominees of Institutional Members and Corporate Members are entitled to all facilities offered by the Association. These include training programmes and services like Conventions, Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Field Visits, Placement Service, Readers Service, Publications etc.
ACTIVITIES
To achieve the objectives of the Association various activities as seminars and conferences are organized.
PROGRAMMES
Training Programmes Training is the major activity of the Association which remains under constant review. The endeavour is to implement, the most important objective of dissemination of knowledge on modern management practices and techniques, according to the contemporary environment.
Programme Policy
The programme policy is based on the premise that dissemination of knowledge over the entire range of management would promote awareness of the importance of good management. The Association therefore, realizes on the concept of continuing education in management sciences and training. In order to achieve this objective, the Association has incorporated the following basic features in its training policies:
1) It will not duplicate efforts of similar institutions but will simply supplement them.
2) The emphasis will be on programmes for senior management and in specialized technical fields for middle management and lower levels.
3) In all the programmes, the emphasis should be on experimental instruction with the assistance of local or foreign experts rather than on theoretical generalization or classroom lecturing. The programmes will be arranged at the local, regional and national levels to extend the area of service to all parts of the country.

The local faculty for the seminars should be drawn from amongst eminent scholars, practitioners of management and senior executives of public and private sector organizations and multinational corporations.
Types of Programmes
The Association organizes programmes covering a wide range of management principles and practices. The programmes are in the form of:
1) Lectures, seminars, courses of short and long duration, film conferences, panel discussions etc. on various aspects of management. In view of vocational pre-occupations of top and senior levels of management, the programmes are mostly of half-day duration.
2)In-house programmes on a wide range of management topics are organized for individual companies.
3) Programmes on current economic situation and economic development, having a direct bearing on prevailing trends and conditions.
4) Programmes dealing with various sectors of public life
Participation
The Association since its inception has organized more than 1000 seminars and training programmes, 8 management conventions on national and international issues and one international seminar on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee Celebrations in 1989. More than fifty thousand participants benefited by these programmes
MEGA EVENTS OF MAP
International Management Convention The Association organizes conventions as and when appropriate. In such conventions delegates are invited from all over the country and also from abroad for exchange of experience so that business and industry at large may be benefitted. The first Convention was organized in 1966 and has been arranged every second year.
Corporate Excellence Awards
Management Association of Pakistan since its establishment in 1964 has played a leading role in promotion of best management practices. MAP’s contribution in this respect is recognized by both Government and Private sectors.
In pursuit of this objective to promote best management practices in the country, MAP instituted its Corporate Excellence Award in 1982. It is an achievement of MAP that the continuity of the Award has been maintained, and the Award has been established as one of the most sought after honours in the corporate sector. It has been referred to as the “Oscar of Corporates”!!
